My daughter is finishing up her 4th grade year in June. Should she attend the 4th or 5th grade session?

If your child is currently in 4th grade then shell be a 5th grader this summer, which makes her eligible for the GSYA 5th grade session. Likewise, if a child is currently in 3rd grade, that child will qualify this summer as a fourth grader. Sessions are divided by the grade level your child will be in NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.


What are the dates for the GREAT Summer Youth Academy? What session will my child be in?

Each session is from 8:00am-3:00pm Monday through Friday.

  • Session #2) next year’s 5th graders: June 19-23
  • Session #3) next year’s 6th graders: June 26-30
  • Session #4) next year’s 7th graders: July 10-14


Is there a cost to the program?

$100 for the week ($20 a day). There are scholarships available.


What does the $100 include?

Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided; and each participant receives a GREAT t-shirt and water bottle. Transportation to and from camp may be provided if arranged ahead of time. All field trips are included.


Can we send food with our child?

Yes, especially if they have special dietary needs or food allergies. Please be sure to include any food allergies on your child’s application and registration forms.


Where do we get an application? When do we find out if our child is accepted?

You can pick up an application in your school office or visit PARTNERS Family Resource Center at 235 S. Auburn St., Grass Valley (next door to Hennessy School), or download an application from this web site. Completed applications must be dropped off at, or mailed to, PARTNERS Family Resource Center (235 South Auburn Street).
PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION BY THE DUE DATE. This will help us notify you by the last week of school.


Where is GREAT held?

This year the GREAT Summer Youth Academy will be held on the campus of the Grass Valley Charter School.


Can my child still attend if they can’t be there the whole week?

We ask participants to commit to attending for the entire week. Many of the activities and lessons involve building on prior lessons and relationships made within small groups. Please check with Karen at 273-4059 if you have a scheduling issue.


My upcoming 5th grader has baseball camp during the 5th grade session. Can he come to another session instead?

Unfotunately, no. Each session is geared toward specific age ranges and with the exception of 7th & 8th graders, we do not mix age groups. There are so many wonderful opportunities for our children in our county. It is hard to fit them all in. Perhaps next year he can have a choice as to which camp he would like to attend.


Can my 5th grader attend the 7th grade session with his sister?

No. Sessions are designed with activities for specific age groups.


My 8th grader is graduating from middle school this year but didn’t get a chance to attend GREAT last summer. Can she come this year?

Nope, sorry. The program is geared for students in elementary and middle school. There may be a camp opportunity for students going into high school. Check with PARTNERS Family Resource Center for some other opportunities. 273-4059


My upcoming 7th grader has attended GREAT the past two summers. Can he come again this year?

We will accept applications from students who have attended in the past. They will be put on a waiting list until we are certain that we have space to include all the new students. Please apply by the May 8th deadline – then we can notify you as soon as possible if there is space.
